Assistant Area Coordinator

The Position of Assistant Area Coordinator

The Assistant Area Coordinator provides support and assistance to the Area Coordinator of the assigned residential living area on the campus. 

In this role, you'll work on a team of Resident Assistants under the direction of an Area Coordinator to help develop an effective community on your staff team to serve the residents in your living area.The position requires integrity, teachability, an others-oriented outlook, and an active faith engagement.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Meet with Area Coordinator (AC) prior to the beginning of the academic year to cast vision for the area and establish expectations for the year.
  • Meet weekly with the AC for the purpose of receiving direction, advice, and instructions for administrative tasks. 

  • Attends and actively participates in all weekly staff meetings and individual meetings scheduled by the Area Coordinator.
  • Attends and actively participates in all weekly AAC meetings
  • Schedule 1-1 meetings with RAs for support
  • Participation in Residence Life Seminar (LEAD 235).
  • Other duties as assigned by AC. 


Crisis Response:

  • Assume full responsibility for non-emergency circumstances in the living area when the AC is absent.
  • Fulfill your AAC weekly duty responsibilities as scheduled.
  • Committing to the safety of yourself and your residents by having current First Aid and CPR certification prior to the beginning of your contract.

Administrative:

  • Assist the AC in all opening and closing of living areas.
  • Create and publicize area RA Duty Schedule. 

  • Assist the AC with closing your living area at Christmas Break. Contact AC before leaving.
  • Assist the AC with closing your living area at Spring Break. Contact AC before leaving.
  • Assist the AC with closing your living area at the end of the school year.

Staff & Area Programming: 

  • Plan and execute staff building events and activities. 

  • Assist ACs with planning and implementing Residence Life August Training.
  • Plan and implement community-building programming for the living area(s) in conjunction with RAs. 
  • Participate in the planning and facilitation of the area's fall and spring RA Retreats.
  • Plan Residence Life end of the semester celebrations (Fall & Spring).

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 1 year experience as a Resident Assistant

  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (See Here)
  • Remain in Good Standing with the University. (See Here)

Time Commitment: 12-15 Hours Per Week

Compensation: Your financial compensation for your service in this position will be a full deduction of your housing fees.  This will be deducted from your total cost of attendance in your financial aid package. You will also receive a $1000 leadership stipend for your work as an AAC.
