Assistant Director of Sports Information

Purpose of Position:

At George Fox University, we've taken a new approach to content generation and storytelling for Bruin Athletics. The Assistant Director of Sports Information must possess the following core attributes and abilities to help us achieve our vision to become the 'team to beat' in NCAA Division III sports with the most formative athletic experience in the country.

  • A storyteller at heart someone who can grab a reader's attention as they weave tales of our heroes and create an emotional pull among our fans.
  • Experience in statistics across multiple sports and the ability to equip a team of students and volunteers to be part of the stats gathering process.
  • The willingness to work weekends and have a flexible schedule serving as one of the administrators for home games.
This person must be motivated and a hard worker, have a die-hard vision to see the Bruins succeed in the competitive field and in the classroom.

This position will be a 20-hour a week part-time job that will help oversee the Bruins' 21 varsity sports with a concentration in game day events and website management.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Game Day Operations o Coordinate volunteers and student employees to deliver a top-tier game day experience
  • Manage and create the student employees work schedule for all home games
  • Train and supervise student employees to handle stats, stories, ticket takers, ushers, etc.
  • Under the direction of the Director of Sports Information, complete assigned tasks relating to fan engagement, multimedia content, etc.
  • Sports Marketing and Communication
  • Assist in the production of game recaps, player profiles, season previews and all other storytelling opportunities for Bruin Athletics in a way that extends brand awareness among prospective student-athletes.
  • Taking on the duties of serving as the lead contact for sports assigned throughout the seasons
  • Comply with the NCAA and the Northwest Conference standards when it comes to athletic results and statistics.
  • Assist in managing the content on the athletic website, ensuring it's up to date, accurate and consistent with brand guidelines
    • Ensure requested changes are made promptly;
    • Coordinate effectively with design and web teams as needed;
    • Communicate with coaches to ensure sports-specific pages are meeting their needs;

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required;
  • Must be available to work weekends and nights;
  • Proficient in The Automated Scorebook (Statcrew) and Hy-Tek;
  • Ability to lead volunteer and student groups effectively to complete goal-oriented tasks;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal;
  • High level of dependability, detail orientation, and commitment to goals;
  • Ability to work within NCAA rules and Federal Title IX regulations;
  • Commitment to issues of ethnic and gender diversity;
  • An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Community Lifestyle Statement;
  • Candidates should value an environment that reflects the diversity of God's kingdom, engages in global concerns, and connects culturally;
  • Ability to lift and move material up to 40 pounds and get to elevated press boxes.
