Associate Dean of Student Account Success

George Fox University announces an opening for an Associate Dean of Student Academic Success, to begin in August 2018. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Student Academic Success, the Associate Dean provides leadership and strategic vision for programs that support the academic success of all George Fox students, but particularly those at higher risk in their efforts to persist and graduate.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership for retention and student success initiatives by bringing together the work of several offices and individuals whose work focuses on support for different specific groups of students (specifically students with disabilities, first-generation college students, English language learners, and first-year students)
  • Establishing and leading processes by which to evaluate the success of these programs, analyzing and reporting the collected information.
  • Providing budget oversight
  • Collaborating with other units (e.g. admissions, athletics, data analytics, student life, IDEA center, financial aid, student accounts, health and counseling services) to ensure a seamless and holistic student support system
  • Collaborating with Employee Empowerment and the Associate Provost for Local and Global Engagement regarding faculty and staff training on disability matters, and best practices for engagement and graduation of all
  • Serving as 504 compliance officer.

 

Qualifications

Doctorate in an academic discipline, higher education administration, student affairs, or a related field is strongly preferred. Applicants with a master's degree combined with a substantive record of increasing leadership in this area may be considered.

 

A minimum of 5 years of experience working with at-risk populations of students (e.g. underrepresented and/or first generation students, students with disabilities) in a higher education setting is required.

 

All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, all GFU employees must commit to abide by the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

 

Other desired characteristics and experience include:

  • Broad-based knowledge of diverse student populations and best practices to encourage engagement and graduation, and the ability to foster just and trusting relationships across all differences.
  • Demonstrated experience in building partnerships with university and community constituents.
  • Knowledge and experience in analyzing complex issues and identifying solutions; skills and experience in developing and administering programs including program evaluation, design of outcome measures and data collection/maintenance and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well, orally and in writing, with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and community members.
  • Experience serving as a supervisor to professional and paraprofessional staff.
  • Ability to articulate the mission of Christian Higher Education, and understand and support the mission, values, and Quaker heritage of the University
  • Ability to lead teams to achieve established goals, to be an effective team member, and to lead strategic planning efforts
  • Experience in budgeting and planning efforts
