Chief Business Development Officer

Purpose: Design Christ-centered educational products that serve an increasingly digital world.  The project will be led by the Business Development Officer.  The director will focus on new business opportunities that will enhance the mission and strengthen the financial capacity of the university.

  1. Develop Business Plans for Expansion and Diversification of George Fox University Offerings.
    1. Product Strategy & Definition:
      1. Conducting market research - Determines customers' needs and desires by specifying the research needed to obtain market information, engaging directly with current or potential customers, or with field salespeople and evaluating multiple sources of input.
      2. Generating product requirements & target specifications - Recommends the nature and scope of present and future product lines and product feature priorities based on analysis of customer needs and business model assumptions. Defines product differentiation by evaluating competing alternatives relative to the company's product and the existing and unmet needs of the target customers.
      3. Developing the business case - Brings new products to market by analyzing proposed product requirements and product development programs; preparing return-on-investment analyses; establishing time schedules with engineering and manufacturing.
    2. Product Business Operation (demand/supply/revenue/profitability):
      1. Facilitating development and production timetables - Introduces and markets new products by developing time-integrated plans with engineering, manufacturing, sales, and marketing.
      2. Setting and monitoring pricing strategies - Determines product pricing by utilizing market research data; reviewing production and sales costs; competitive analysis; anticipating volume; costing special and customized orders.
      3. Forecasting demand, coordinating production, & allocating inventory - Facilitates inventory turnover and product availability by reviewing and adjusting inventory levels and production schedules. Provides information for management by preparing short-term and long-term product sales forecasts and special reports and analyses.
    3. Product Marketing & Promotion:
      1. Product positioning and branding defining the unique position the product should occupy in the mind of the target market and associating that with product naming and branding.
      2. Developing market awareness and promotional strategies to drive demand - Provides source data for product line communications by defining product marketing communication objectives. Defines programs and incentives for direct and indirect sales resources and distribution channel partners to drive demand. Obtains product market share by working with the sales director to develop product sales strategies.

  2. Develop Digital Content for New Audiences Brian Doak and New Director
    1. Enhance the number of undergraduate courses available to traditional students and new student audiences.  One of our more immediate challenges is related to our capacity to offer a variety of courses online.  We can do "remote" but we have little truly digital course offerings.  In order for us to survive in the future we absolutely must develop content that will serve our brand and increase our presence in the digital marketplace.  This past week I met (Zoom) with the president of BYU Idaho which offers one of the largest online programs in the country.  He made the decision to give us any digital content we want for free.  I am having Brian Doak assess the courses this week. 
    2. Establish relationships offering dual credit with High Schools in the Northwest.
    3. Create an asynchronous educational product to offer home schoolers and others in the Northwest.
  3.  Develop a business plan for a Medical Center in the northwest that will lead to the expansion of current GFU health care programs. 
    1. Expand corporate relationships, certificates and degrees. 
    2. Further advance revenue diversification while enhancing the value of student education experience, improve our communities,

      2. Evaluate a community medical clinic in Newberg (PT, PA, Psy-d, Nursing)
      3. Evaluate child care in conjunction with Business and COE
      4. Campus Book Store / Coffee shop (students and GFU Campus)
