Data Engineer

Your Purpose

In this position, you will build the technical infrastructure so support the university's data needs. You will create and build modern data pipelines to aggregate data from a variety of sources and applications. Your work will enable teams throughout the University to drive digital transformation with an eye toward overall institutional effectiveness in order to align institutional resources with the university mission.

What you will do each day:

• Build and maintain data pipeline architecture
• Design, build and maintain data integrations
• Assemble complex data sets based on functional and technical business requirements
• Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader.
• Collaborate with data analysts and business teams to improve data models that feed business intelligence tools, increasing data accessibility and fostering data-driven decision making across the organization.
• Implement processes and systems to monitor data quality, ensuring production data is always accurate and available for key stakeholders and business processes that depend on it.
• Implement controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of institutional data
• Writes unit/integration tests, contributes to engineering wiki, and documents work.
• Performs data analysis required to troubleshoot data related issues and assist in the resolution of data issues.

What you bring:

• Experience working with relational databases and fluency in SQL
• Experience with data extraction and transformation
• Experience writing production-level code in python
• Experience working with AWS in a production environment
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes and deployment pipelines
• Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams and communicating technical concepts with business users
