Director of Campus Recreation

George Fox University is seeking a relationally focused, task oriented, and values driven Director of Campus Recreation. This is a 12-month position that provides oversight, direction, and programming for the Hadlock Student Center (HSC). This includes a fitness center, group fitness classes, intramural sports programs, rock climbing wall, and outdoor programming and gear rentals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver the Be Known promise to students, employees and others on a daily basis.
  • Implement facility policies and a general procedures manual, including hours of operation, safety and security protocols, and liability and risk accession.
  • Hire, train, and evaluate HSC student staff.
  • Create and maintain positive and professional communication through various marketing strategies, including garnering the support and participation of the GFU student and professional community.
  • Direct intramural sports program, evaluate current offerings, and plan implementation of programs within new and existing facilities, including a strategic initiative to involve the majority of undergraduate students in intramurals sports.
  • Establish policies and programs for the fitness center, including the creation of wellness and fitness programs for students and employees.
  • Ensure proper planning, organization, training, and implementation of all aspects related to the rock climbing wall and bouldering area.
  • Plan and implement outdoor programming and the facilitation of the gear rental program.
  • Evaluate programmatic aspects, meet with student focus groups, and continually develop plans for facility usage.
  • Create measurable outcomes for the HSC and establish the collection, analyzation, and reporting of data.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in College Student Affairs or a related field is preferred. Bachelor's degree required with two years of post-undergraduate transferable and relevant professional experience.
  • Ability to challenge, support, mentor, interact with and relate to college students.
  • The ideal candidate will possess these strengths: communication, honesty, integrity, relational aptitude, interpersonal skills, problem solving, organizational and administrative skills, dependability, initiative (self-starter), flexibility, remaining calm in high pressure situations, forward thinking, envisioning big picture and detail oriented.
  • Availability and willingness to work some evening and weekends.
  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED training and certification.
  • Demonstrated effective experience, knowledge, and ability to instruct rock climbing and self-rescue (beginning to advanced skills), and facilitate climbing wall instructor training is preferred. Currently hold, or be willing to obtain, applicable climbing wall instructor certification.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
