Drain Technician

Job Purpose:

To maintain and service the plumbing needs across campus. To assist the Mechanical Systems department in developing and executing a maintenance schedule to ensure the longevity of plumbing pipes and equipment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all preventative maintenance on pipes and plumbing equipment and other equipment on campus: changing filters, changing batteries, labeling & identifying water shut offs, changing out mixing valves, seats, washers and angle stops, etc.
  • Assist with updating plumbing maintenance schedule.
  • Clear clogs from various types of drains such as; floor drains, sinks, tubs, toilets and urinals.
  • Use an electric snake, water jet, and sewer camera for inspecting drains.
  • Repair; faucets, sinks, toilets, water pipes, underground pipes and drains, and water leaks.
  • Aid in implementing safety procedures for Building Systems and the larger Physical Plant Services.
  • Work alongside Journeyman, LMEs and LEBs to perform work in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Maintain the shop: clean shop, take inventory of shop and supply areas, pickup/return materials to supply houses, deliver materials to the job site.
  • Assist with any other work as requested.
  • Assist the Mechanical Systems department in completing work orders in a timely fashion.
  • Yearly inspection of backflow devices.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Adaptable and willing to take on any reasonable task set before them with a positive and respectful attitude.

 

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 2 years' experience as Drain Technician
  • Must have or been willing to acquire Backflow license
  • Previous experience with building trades.
  • Knowledge of tools and materials.
  • Must have a valid Oregon driver's license and be insurable. George Fox conducts motor vehicle record checks on all job applicants who are required to drive a university vehicle as an essential function of their job. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a motor vehicle record check.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, reach, talk and hear. The employee is also required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch. They are required to climb ladders frequently. The employee must occasionally lift up to 75 lbs. but more frequently below 50 lbs.
  • Employee may be required to dig ditches, work outside in the weather, haul materials, clean up materials and job sites, and organize materials and vans, and any number of dirtier jobs.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on telephone, and to understand and follow instructions.
