Groundskeeper I

Job Purpose

Enhance the working and learning environment of the George Fox community in a spirit of Christian service and stewardship by providing appropriate and well-maintained facilities. Lead, inspire and motivate direct reports to advance the strategic mission of the University. Contribute to a safety oriented, positive team culture.

Job Impact

Provides facilities in which the University mission occurs. Works directly with students providing professional training and experience while serving as an example for them of what it means to think with clarity, act with integrity, and serve with passion.

Essential Responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, planting beds, trees, and hardscapes. This includes evaluating turf quality, applying fertilizer and other soil amendments appropriately, mowing and edging lawns, weed control, proper pruning of plants, placement of mulch materials, blowing and pressure washing hard surfaces, weed control, following department protocols and standards including Integrated Pest Management practices.
• Running irrigation systems within maintenance area. This includes start up and shut off of irrigation mainlines, operating controllers, repairing irrigation systems, and making adjustments to irrigation systems.
• Operate and maintain landscaping equipment. This includes riding and walk behind mowers, trucks and trailers, gators, sweepers, pressure washers, blowers, edgers, line trimmers, trenchers, rototillers, and tractors. It also includes checking fluids, sharpening blades, keeping equipment clean, and reporting any problems.
• Performing herbicide applications. This requires obtaining and maintaining a commercial pesticide applicator license and following all applicable laws and safety rules.
• Training and managing work-study students and volunteers to perform maintenance tasks in an efficient manner. Ensure that they are following safety rules and regulations.

Associated Responsibilities

• Assist in tree removal and clean up.
• Participate in landscape installation projects.
• Keep workspace clean and safe.
• Respond to snow and other weather related emergencies.

Assigned Processes

• Maintaining the grounds East of Hess Creek Canyon.

Minimum Qualifications

• Full time position, Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
• 1-2 years experience is required
• High School or equivalent training is required
• Expertise working with diverse students and employees
