Groundskeeper III - Pruner/Plant Health Care

Job Purpose

Enhance the working and learning environment of the George Fox community in a spirit of Christian service and stewardship by providing appropriate and well-maintained facilities. Lead, inspire and motivate direct reports to advance the strategic mission of the University. Contribute to a safety oriented, positive team culture.

Essential Responsibilities

• Manage pruning of campus plants - Properly prune plants for safety and visibility as well as plant health; teach others on crew necessary skills as needed.
• Supervise and manage landscape crews - Train students and volunteers to properly perform landscape maintenance tasks; ensure that crews are properly using PPE; ensure crews are following equipment maintenance and safety procedures; communicate goals effectively.
• Scout for diseases, insects, and other plant problems. Aid in diagnosis and follow IPM practices to resolve issues.
• Operate equipment - Operate a variety of equipment involved in groundskeeping tasks including tractors, rototillers, trucks, chainsaws, gators, chippers, etc. Monitor tools, equipment, and machinery for needed maintenance.
• Pesticide application - Maintain a commercial pesticide license; apply herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides as needed; follow associated laws, safety procedures, and IPM procedures.
• Other duties as assigned

Associated Responsibilities

• Help with snow removal and other storm related problems.
• Keep workspace clean and safe. 

Assigned Processes

• Pruning, fertilization, and pesticide applications for trees, shrubs, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

• Full time position, Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
• Trade or Vocational school required
• 5-9 years' experience Required
