Groundskeeper III

Would you love to assist a great community, in keeping University grounds clean and attractive? Do you have experience or interest in landscaping and arbor care? George Fox may have the perfect Grounds keeping position for you.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Landscape maintenance including: bark dusting, edging, lawn mowing, planting, weeding, blowing, pressure washing, pruning, fertilizing and pesticide spraying, and irrigation.
  2. Preforming specialized pruning and arborist work.
  3. Aid in Landscape installation including: creating new lawn and bed areas, forming swales and contours, installing landscape products, structures and hardware, planting and installing irrigation.
  4. Oversee the work of student workers, temporary laborers, and community service workers.
  5. Participate in ice and snow removal during inclement weather.
  6. Operate equipment such as tractors, trucks, riding mowers, and sweepers.
  7. Be in agreement with the adage that a good attitude is part of the job and strive to maintain a positive attitude towards the job at hand, towards GFU, and                           towards students and co-workers.
  8. This position does require weekend, and or, non-routine hours as requested; it does require other duties when and as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  1. Two years grounds maintenance experience.
  2. Certified Arborist (ISA certified), Journeyman's proficiency in hazardous tree assessment and removal preferred.
  3. Good physical health.
  4. Ability to frequently lift loads of up to 50 pounds.
  5. Ability to traverse entire campus continuously for two hours including handling rough terrain, slopes and stairs in all kinds of weather.
  6. Taking charge of an area, planning the work, assigning tasks, scheduling jobs, and trouble shooting.
  7. Licensing for insecticide, fungicide and herbicide application or CDL.
  8. Strong supervision skills.
  9. Ability to stand and/or stoop for extended periods of time.
  10. Ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
  11. Ability to respond positively to emergency situations.
  12. Must have a valid Oregon Driver's license and pass the University Driver Certification.
  13. An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Community Responsibilities.
  14. Ability to communicate effectively in English, including on telephone, and in understanding and following instructions.
  15. Ability to work cooperatively with other departments.
  16. Continue with job related education, classes and on the job training.
  17. Ability to operate mechanized grounds keeping equipment.

 

Working Conditions:  Exposure to outside working and weather conditions on a regular basis. 

 

Reporting Relationship:  Reports to Ground Superintendent.
