International Student Affairs Administrator

Position Overview:

The International Student Support Officer is primarily responsible for the strategic alignment of our work to attract and serve international students at George Fox University. The Officer will work collaboratively with deans, program directors, Student Life and Enrollment & Marketing to develop and implement a cohesive strategy around international student and visiting scholar services, international recruiting agent relationships, and student development.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Work alongside Academic Affairs, deans, and program directors to develop academic offerings and MOUs that will attract and serve international students in alignment with the strategic focus of the university.
    1. Manage international partnership strategies with faculty to create alignment between academic offerings and university objectives for international students.
    2. Partner with academic staff to synchronize programs and travel to bring alignment to international efforts.
  2. Work collaboratively across campus to ensure institutional compliance with government policies and federal regulations as dictated by USCIS
    1. Serve as the PDSO (primary designated school official)
    2. Ensure proper on-going training for all DSOs on campus
    3. Communicate with administration, faculty, and staff regarding changes and/or updates in USCIS regulations
    4. Facilitate students' efforts in obtaining and maintaining their international student visas
    5. Ensure that the institution is in compliance within the J Visa program
  3. Act as the relationship manager for international recruiting agents
    1. Travel as needed to develop and expand the impact of recruiting agents
    2. Connect with Marketing teams to build recruiting materials (websites, brochures, video, etc.) for agents and international recruitment
    3. Train and liaise with Admission Counselors, both undergraduate and graduate, to ensure best practices for those teams in international recruitment. Provide insight into international credit transfer as needed
    4. Collaborate with Admissions and Financial Aid in designing the international student scholarship program.
  4. Direct opportunities for the personal and spiritual growth and development of international students, which include but are not limited to the following:
    1. Plan, organize, and implement workshops and other programs that support the educational and spiritual needs of international students
    2. Collaborate with Student life to develop and coordinate International Student Orientation
    3. Meet one-on-one with students as necessary to provide counseling and academic advising
  5. Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  6. By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  7. Demonstrates awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.

 

Associated Duties:

  1. Work with IDEA Center to help prepare international students for graduate school or workforce.
  2. Work with the College of Education and the College of Business to assist in the administrative details of hosting visiting scholars.
  3. Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Development or other related fields preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to build networks
  • Self-directed individual with collaborative approach to cross-departmental work
  • Demonstrated intercultural competency, especially related to international students
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks
  • Second language proficiency preferred
  • International travel experience preferred
  • Strong computer and organizational skills required
  • An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the university's goals, including signed agreement with George Fox University "Statement of Faith" and "Community Lifestyle Statement" and being in living agreement with same.
