Job Purpose:


To perform work that falls under the scope of a Limited Maintenance Electrician's license. To maintain, repair, and replace electrical installations on the premises of George Fox University (both Tigard and Newberg campuses), including, but not limited to: lighting, lighting retrofits, motors, and general maintenance work orders. To assist the Mechanical Systems department (HVAC & Plumbing) with installations requiring electricity. To train an apprentice full-time through their apprenticeship.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performance of maintenance, repair, and replacement of electrical installations on campus:
  • Maintain electrical wiring, switches, receptacles, light fixtures, bulbs, ballasts, and other material related to existing electrical installations.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems
  • Repair appliances, fixtures, motors & controls
  • Apply current NEC and OESC regulations to all work performed.
  • Oversee and train assigned LME apprentice according to apprenticeship standards.
  • Perform and complete work orders as requested through the WO system in a professional and timely fashion.
  • Work independently or alongside Journeymen, LMEs, JLEs, apprentices, and workstudy students to perform work in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Work in coordination with our HVAC technicians and our plumbers when they have need of an LME.
  • This job entails a fair amount of lighting retrofit and repair.
  • Preferred: considerable experience in lighting retrofit and appliance repair.


Provided:

  • You may have access to a University vehicle while on the job. This vehicle is to remain on campus.
    It is not for personal use or commuting between work and home.
  • The typical tools you need to perform your everyday tasks will be provided on-the-job. If you
    prefer a different brand than what is provided or you want a specialty tool not deemed necessary
    by your supervisor, you may bring your own tools, but you are responsible for them. The
    University will not reimburse you for your personal tools. Requests for the provision of specific
    tools may be granted upon approval from your superintendent or approved financial manager.
  • You may have keys for access to buildings in accordance with your job responsibilities. These will
    be under your responsibility to keep track of. Loss of keys can result in fees and/or termination.
  • Any company tools or property are for company use only. You will have access to those applicable
    to your job during regular business hours. Tools outside of your specific department will require
    authorization from the respective department's superintendent or higher.
  • Safety seminars and continuing education classes related to the trade may be accessible through
    the company from time to time.


Expectations:

  • All technicians will adhere to strict Lock Out Tag Out regulations, OSHA regulations, and
    required PPE (personal protection equipment).
  • All work will be performed safely and professionally.
  • This means we keep to the code, clean up after ourselves, and only perform work you'd be
    proud to put your name on.
  • We have a "no live work" policy. You are not expected to work on live circuits.
  • If deemed necessary by your supervisor for troubleshooting purposes, live work may be
    performed with proper safety measures, PPE, and a signed hot work permit.
  • All LME work shall be under 600v.
  • Willing and able to train an apprentice and support them throughout their apprenticeship with
    patience and guidance.
  • When we have an LME apprentice, they are required to be supervised 100% of the time
    while performing electrical work until the receive their license.
  • Punctuality, dependability, initiative, flexibility, attention to detail, and responsive to instruction.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect, and customer service.
  • Ability to think critically and work through problems in a practical manner.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Adaptable and willing to take on any reasonable task set before you with a positive and respectful
    attitude.
  • Handle objects, 2 way radio, vehicles, equipment, supplies, tools.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual
    contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrate awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex,
    political views, expressions of faith, etc., and work well with a variety of people.


Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in commercial and residential electrical installation and repair.
  • Current Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME) license (minimum).
  • First aid/CPR certified or willing to get certified upon hire (class provided).
  • Willingness to work non-standard work hours in order to have access to areas that are
    inaccessible during normal operation hours of the University. (i.e. working 5am-1:30pm)
  • Shift would overlap with day shift.
  • This would require planning ahead for the next day and integrity with unsupervised work.
  • Technicians who live within city limits (Newberg/Dundee) are required to come in during
    emergency situations to aid the University and its occupants as long as safely able (snow/storm
    conditions, etc.).
  • May occasionally be asked to work on a weekend in order to support University functions. Such
    requests will be planned in advance.
  • General knowledge of tools and materials of the trade.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including by telephone, and to
    understand and follow instructions.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow electrical blueprints, diagrams, and instruction.

  • Knowledge of and ability to accurately apply National Electrical Code standards and regulations.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 pounds or more; and easily manage rough terrain, stairs, and
    ladders. The employee may occasionally lift up to 75 lbs. but more frequently below 50 lbs.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, reach, talk, and
    hear. You may also be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to stand for up to 2 hours, sit and work at a desk, work outdoors in all weather
    conditions.
  • Ability to, or willingness to learn how to, use our current technology and devices
    (computers/iPads) to complete paperwork, timecards, and all other necessary procedures.
  • Must have a valid Oregon driver's license and be insurable. George Fox conducts motor vehicle
    record checks on all job applicants who are required to drive a University vehicle as an essential
    function of their job. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a motor vehicle record
    check.
