Job Purpose

We're looking for a big-thinking, energetic, design-obsessed, vision-casting savant to be our university's creative director. In this new role, you will inspire and lead our marketing team by developing the brand strategy and providing the coaching, creative input and influence to advance it forward. You'll be our internal brand champion, ensuring everyone in the marketing department and across the university understands our brand and its goals.

This person should have a passion for leading teams that love taking risks, are eager to push the envelope and aren't satisfied with good enough. As the leader of the marketing team, it's your job to cultivate and mentor talent, develop a culture of innovation, and foster collaboration across the university regardless of status or rank. Essential Responsibilities

  • Strategically lead the university's multi-functional marketing communications department, overseeing the content creation and digital marketing wings, to build a strong culture and deliver results.
  • Develop and execute a brand strategy that will increase enrollment at and affinity toward the university.
  • Create and protect a brand so powerful, positive and inspiring that the interest generated will be overwhelming.
  • Champion innovative and wild ideas that are grounded in strategy.
  • Manage and direct large-scale campaigns, projects and initiatives.
  • Ensure the products and services that fall within the marketing team's domain will resonate with our current and future customers.
  • Search out new marketing and advertising opportunities that fit within the brand and maximize our opportunities for growth.
  • Create and implement visual marketing collateral (from print to digital to whatever's next) with support from the marketing team.
  • Serve as the marketing liaison and resident expert to the university president, deans, vice presidents, and other senior leaders regarding their high-level marketing needs.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrates awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.

Minimum Qualifications

The right candidate will have a background in marketing, design, or brand management as well as experience leading teams. He/she should have the ability to think creatively and innovatively, be results-focused and have familiarity with the latest trends and methodologies as well as an instinctive feeling about where the future is heading. This individual must be a good listener who values collaboration and mentorship.

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Proven track record of building culture and leading high-functioning teams that meet or exceed goals
  • Ability to hire and train employees with a passion for coaching employees towards individual and team growth.
  • Experience creating and implementing successful brand strategies
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • 3+ years experience leading creative work and/or digital marketing
  • A degree in art and design, business, marketing or communications. Relevant advanced degree desired
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Advanced time management and analytical skills
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating integrated work on campaigns that include multi-channeled marketing
  • An evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution's goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Community Lifestyle Statement and being in living agreement with same.
